forestsolution was founded by Martin Opitz and Martin Seitz in 2014. At present we are three independent forestry professionals with a long track record in forest management and auditing of sustainable forest management, the chain of custody of woodbased products as well as forestry based climate projects.
Martin Seitz is founding member of forestsolution and holds a forestry degree from the University of Applied Science and Arts, Göttingen/Germany. He is specialized in sustainable forest management and forest carbon & certification schemes.
He has over 15 years of experience in managing and consulting forest based companies in Ghana and Germany. As independent auditor he has been additionally involved in the certification of afforestation/reforestation/REDD projects, of forest enterprises and of forest management systems including chain of custody in the last 10 years. Martin Seitz is a member of the Land and Forestry Team of The Gold Standard Foundation and boardmember of PRIMAKLIMA e.V.
Martin Opitz is a forest engineer with a master degree of forest science from the Albert-Ludwigs-University, Freiburg/Germany. He is specialized in sustainable forest enterprise management and forest carbon & forest certification schemes. He has over 10 years of work experience in managing and consulting forest based companies. As an independent auditor he has been involved in the certification of several projects of afforestation/reforestation, REDD and peatland-rewetting, the assessment of climate methodologies as well as the certification of sustainable forestry management (FM) and the chain of custody (CoC). During his professional career, he worked in many countries of Latin America, Africa and Asia and is well acquainted with the topics of forestry based climate protection schemes. Since 2014, he is founding member of forestsolution.
Dr. Kai Timo Schoenfeld is a forest engineer with a master degree of forest science from the Albert-Ludwigs-University, Freiburg/Germany. After his studies of forest science at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg he earnt a degree as a forest assessor at the Lower Saxony Forest State Department. He has finished his PhD at the World Forestry Department of the University of Hamburg. He is specialized in resource efficientcy, climate change and sustainable forest management. As an independent consultant he works in auditing, monitoring and evaluating projects in the forest sector. Kai Timo Schoenfeld has a long track recored in managing projects in Germany, Chile, Paraguay and Suriname. In 2017, he joined forestsolution.
Bernhard von Puttkamer earned a master’s degree in environmental forestry from the University of Bangor, Wales in the UK, having previously completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Freiburg in Germany and the University of Sopron in Hungary. After his studies he acquired practical background in forestry work through training as a tree feller in Celerina, Switzerland. He has over 15 years of work experience managing and consulting forest enterprises in Central and Eastern Europe and sub-Sahara Africa. He worked as a senior consultant for green investment initiatives in Central and Eastern Europe and Africa and had built up sustainable forest investments for international companies and private owners in Romania, Estonia, Slovakia, Czech-Republic and Hungary. He has established a short rotation poplar plantation and an organic winery in Hungary.
